Have a Golden Visa? What a Passport Could Add

Your residence permit may already be valuable. The next question is whether an additional nationality would give your family something meaningfully different.

Keep the value of what you already have

If you hold a Golden Visa or another investment residence permit, you have already created an international option. It may support a place to live, family plans or access to a particular region under the terms of that permit. A second citizenship should be evaluated as a possible addition to that plan.

The distinction is straightforward. Residence gives you a legal status in a country. Citizenship makes you a national of a country and creates the basis for its passport. Some residence routes can eventually lead to naturalisation, but that later application has its own requirements and timing.

What could Argentina add?

For someone whose current passport makes frequent travel administratively difficult, an Argentine passport could simplify relevant short visits. For someone who already travels easily, the greater value may be a country of citizenship in South America and an additional home option for the family.

The announced investment route is separate from Argentina's ordinary two-year residence qualification. That matters to people who cannot reorganise their lives around a long period of residence before applying. It does not establish an exemption from every possible visit, identity check or passport appointment; the operational requirements still need to be confirmed.

Three situations worth discussing

The international entrepreneur: your residence permit serves your current base, while a second nationality may support travel plans and an additional country in which to build a life. Start with the destinations and activities that matter, rather than a passport ranking.

The family planner: your children may study or work in different places over time. Map each person's nationality, residence status and eligibility. Citizenship is only one part of that map; university admission, professional licensing and foreign work permissions remain separate questions.

The established expatriate: life abroad may be working well, yet you want an option beyond your current employment or residence arrangements. Another country of citizenship can be relevant even when an immediate move is not planned.

Understand when the passport becomes tangible

The process does not begin with a passport purchase. The government assesses the citizenship application and makes its decision. The applicable citizenship, identity and passport formalities must then be completed. A travel document follows nationality; it does not replace the legal steps that create it.

Argentina allows multiple nationality, but the rules of your existing nationality also matter. Before adding another citizenship, assess compatibility and any implications for the rights or obligations you already have. Citizenship, immigration residence and tax residence should each be considered on their own terms.

Ask what changes for you

Bring MFG Consultants three things: your current citizenships, your residence permits and your family's priorities. Our role is to help you assess the additional value, explain the announced programme and build a realistic next-step plan. The result should be a decision based on your life, not a second document acquired without a clear purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Does Argentine citizenship replace my Golden Visa?

They are separate statuses. Whether to retain, renew or change an existing residence permit depends on its rules and your plans. An additional nationality should be assessed alongside the rights you already hold.

Would an Argentine passport let me work anywhere in Europe?

No. Eligible short visits to the Schengen Area are different from residence or employment permission. European work and residence arrangements require their own legal basis.
